l’Hospitalet de Llobregat
The refurbishment and general adaptation of the building is planned in order to respond to the new conditions of use and accessibility. Likewise, in order to standardize the project’s solution with the existing envelope, the new skin is spread along the entire west facade, improving this way the sun exposure.
Conceptually, we start off with some massive elements emerging from the ground and a permeable skin. We place a set of volumes within the space, which generate circulations. They contain internal office services and activities, and serve at the same time to separate other spaces.
The concept of permeability and lightness is pushed to the limit, spreading over the facade and through the ceiling
Vertical ribs of micro-perforated steel sheet are created as a result of the need to protect oneself from the sun, noise, vandalism and the curious eyes of pedestrians. They emerge from the facade and turn inward creating the ceiling. The entire project is thus a combination of these two elements: the containers and the steel ribs, which provide a pattern of repetition that extends throughout the building.
The massive volumes are formalized with a wooden skeleton cladded with mixed-type panels made of wood and cement. When they look out, a sandwich panel is incorporated, which guarantees waterproofing and thermal insulation.
